Maskne, what is it and how to avoid it – KŌNSE Guide

default

Would you have thought that one of the most research words in 2020 would be maskne?! It turns out this is a real skin condition that most of us have developed through this pandemic, causing not only physical effects but also physiological … as if we don’t have enough in our plates already!

What is Maskne? What are the causes? How to treat it?

Generally, “maskne” is an umbrella term for several skin conditions that can be caused by wearing a face mask or covering. It can include: Breakouts of acne-type spots, skin sensitivity, sore skin and even small lesions due to irritation caused by friction, heat, pressure, stretching and squeezing of the skin. In most cases, maskne is the result of clogged pores. You naturally already have oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells on your skin. But when you wear a mask, these substances can build up more and block your pores.

How to treat it?

  • Use masks made of natural fibres such as cotton or silk and keep them clean (wash once every day!)
  • Look for natural ingredientes with Willow Bark extract  for its anti-inflammatory effects for irritated skin, Honey for its anti-microbial properties,  Hazelnut Oils for its moisturising and soothings properties and Cucumber  for its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Use appropriate skin-care, cleansing is essential. For this, we recommend adapting your routine based on your type of skin through our Skin Quiz.
