Adaptogens: a magic potion for detoxing & de-stressing


As most of you know, adaptogens and other herbs are getting a lot of attention these days in the wellness world and for good reason; we at #KonseBeauty have experienced it first hand and the results can be amazing (healthy, radiant skin, stronger immune system and hormonal balance…).

First of all, what is the meaning of “adaptogens”? They are edible herbs that can help your body adapt to a variety of stressors. When we are faced with a stressor, be it physical or mental, our bodies go through what is called General Adjustment Syndrome (GAS). SAG is a three-stage response: alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. Adaptogens help us to stay longer in the resistance phase, through a stimulating effect that slows down exhaustion.

Some adaptogens, like cordyceps, increase energy levels, while others, like reishi, have a calming effect. Many (from rhodiola to ashawaganda) have immune-strengthening effects.

It doesn’t end here, when we’re stressed, our adrenal gland releases the stress hormone cortisol, which can lead to weight gain, in which case adaptogens can indirectly help with other health problems, such as pain, digestive problems, insomnia, and more.
